Beth Wood – Miss Laramie Jubilee Days 2008

Beth Wood – Miss Laramie Jubilee Days 2008

Hey all you cowgirls, cowboys and people alike!! My name is Beth Wood and I am the 2008 Miss Laramie Jubilee.  I am the proud 19 year old daughter of Dale and Mary Louise.  We have lived on our ranch in the Little Laramie Valley for the last 15 years and I absolutely love it!  My brother Billy and I raise horses, pigs, sheep and goats, along with the family pets of two dogs, a few cats and Billy’s frogs.

I am currently attending Casper College where I am double majoring in Agriculture Education and Psychology with a minor in Spanish.  I am attending Casper on a full-ride Livestock Judging scholarship.  Casper College is a great school, but I will always know my roots are in the Albany County area and with the Wyoming Cowboys!!

This summer’s rodeo trail brings me a lot of excitement! I am looking forward to traveling all over the state of Wyoming and northern Colorado, representing our 68th Annual Hometown Celebration, Laramie Jubilee Days!  This summer you will see on two different horses; one is a stone colored quarter horse named “Roblyn” and the other is a brown and white paint named “Partner.”  My two side-kicks and I, along with my Lady-in-Waiting, Ashlee Estel, are pumped to meet all the new faces, as well as seeing the friendly faces from years past.

This year as Miss Laramie Jubilee marks a new chapter life.  I am sure it will be a roller coaster of ups and downs, but I am ready to saddle up and hold on for one exciting 365 day ride!  Already this year, I have been traveling the state encouraging people to attend the greatest summer rodeo and getting things ready for Jubilee Days.  One of the things I am already so enthralled with is getting our Princess program back!  This year during Jubilee Days, our Royalty Court will have two extra members!!  We have Princess, Ashlen Nottage, and Princess, Nic Burke.

As I prepare to compete for Miss Rodeo Wyoming in August, I encourage everyone to come and say hi this summer during Jubilee Days.  Ashlee and I, along with the princesses would love to see each and every one of you downtown during the many events of Jubilee days, but especially at all the rodeos throughout the week!

I want to thank everyone for all your help and support and I wish you all the best and leave you with this - "Courage is being scared to death - and saddling up anyway." (Quote by John Wayne) and "...God gave me my talent and I was afraid of facing him one day if I didn't use it." (Quote by Jack Sorenson)

Ashlee Estel

Ashlee – Laramie Jubilee Days Lady-in-Waiting

Ashlee has been a cowgirl since she fell in love with horses at 5 years old, like most little girls.  However, her “horse phase” never faded away.  Her uncle purchased her horse back riding lessons at 6 years old.  At Hill Croft Acres, she learned how to ride English.  With learning English, she also learned how to jump, and ride dressage.  When Ashlee was 7, she rode in a western saddle for the first time.  Shortly after, Hill Croft Acres closed, and Ashlee wanted to continue riding.  When she turned 8, she joined the 4-H group Rough Riders.  Like all 4-H projects, Ashlee learned even more about riding Western, and also continued to ride English.  She competed in her first show at 8 years old, riding her 17 year-old mare, Wimpy.  She and Wimpy won many honors, including several Reserve and Grand Championships until it was time to retire Wimpy at age 21.

Over the many years in 4-H, Ashlee honed her skills on horseback, hoping one day to train her own horse.  She accomplished this goal when she was 15.  She purchased her horse Cash, a paint gelding, which she competed on for Miss Laramie Jubilee Days Lady-In-Waiting.  Ashlee and Cash grew together into an unbeatable pair in riding Gymkana, particularly barrel racing.

Since high school Ashlee has been attending the University of Wyoming .  At the University, she competed with the UW Rodeo team for her first 2 years.  She learned how to rope steers and calves.  While she is no longer on the rodeo team, she continued to barrel race competitively.

Ashlee has grown very quickly over the last few years.  Just last summer she completed an internship on Trout Creek Ranch, in Cody , Wyoming .  At the ranch she learned more about irrigating, and training horses for reining, working cow horse, and cutting.  At the close of her internship, she realized she was luckier than she realized.  She had the privilege over the years to perfect her riding skills in almost every area involving competitive horse back riding.

She is particularly excited about being Miss Laramie Jubilee Days 2009.  Being a rodeo queen has brought Ashlee to realize how important it is to promote the sport of Rodeo, and preserve agriculture.  The West is a fast growing suburban area, whereas the majority of the populations have never been introduced to Rodeo or agriculture.  It is important for people to realize how much of an impact agriculture has on the economy and life..  Ashlee hopes to help educate the public with her BS in Animal and Veterinary Sciences while promoting the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, and agriculture.

Ashlen Nottage

Ashlen Nottage

Ashlen is the 14-year-old daughter of Craig and Heather Nottage. She will be in the 10th grade at the Laramie High School next fall. She is a member of FFA, 4-H and High School Rodeo. She enjoys working with horses, showing horses, in 4-H and participating in Dash for Cash. Ashlen has attended Christian Cowboy Rodeo Camp, a MHBHA barrel race clinic and a Clinton Anderson clinic. She plans to continue working with horses and would like to be a mechanic. Ashlen said, “I have wanted to be LJD rodeo royalty since I was 3 years old and feel it will help me learn to communicate better and be a role model.”
